My name is Jeffrey Fan, and I am an American-born Chinese (ABC), although I prefer to be identified as a Chinese American (yes, there is a difference). I started this blog because as much as my parents tried to mold me into the “typical Asian” during my childhood, something went awry along the way. OK, so I did get a 2400 on my SAT and I do know how to solve a Rubik’s cube, but the list ends not too long after that. I decided long ago to quit the piano and violin (although I still play piano on my own time), and now I play the guitar. I don’t like to gamble, and I dislike creative writing. My hair is not perfectly black, and I don’t hold chopsticks properly. I could probably beat you in ping-pong (table tennis?), but I’m no slouch at pool, basketball, or soccer either. I can do one-arm push-ups and dazzle you with card tricks. I am not very good at video games, except if they’re on the N64, but unlike most ABCs, I am actually fluent in Chinese. I only applied to two colleges, and am a student at the University of Pennsylvania.
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this is a blog about my personal life and daily (weekly/monthly) musings. Once in a while I might actually write some noteworthy, in which case I recommend you subscribe to my posts by clicking on the RSS Feed button in the right-hand sidebar, or share individual posts by clicking on the icons below each entry. I would also love to talk to you if you have any questions or comments about this site. Please use my contact form by clicking on the Contact link in the header.
